HOW TO GROW CLOSER TO GOD

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for the forgiveness of your sins, and you have asked Him to be the Lord and Savior of your life, you have become a Child of God. Becoming a Christian or child of God is so exciting and is the very best decision that anyone can ever make in life.

Knowing Jesus Christ will give you a peace and hope that nothing else can give.
Your life will also be filled with challenges and trials, but through them all, the main key

is to always put God first in your life.

If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior see "Who is Jesus Christ?".

If you truly believe in Jesus Christ, you will allow Him to change you to be more like Him. There are some very important steps that a child of God must take to grow in the Christian walk. Let's take a look at a few of them:

1). READING THE BIBLE

With God's word we can live a life of service to Him and also a happy life full of God's blessings. God wants you to learn about Him. To learn more about God is done by reading and studying the book that God gave you. The Bible has every answer to life in it. God gave us the precious gift of life and He also gave us His word as a guide.

A good place to start is the book of John. John is located in the New Testament.

If you are asked to turn to John 14:6 for example:

First: Find the book of John (In the New Testament).
Second:
Look for Chapter 14 in the book of John (large numbers).
Third:
After you find John 14 look for verse 6 (small numbers).

When you have found John 14:6, it should read close to the following
:
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Just like everyone enjoys eating certain kinds of food, the Bible is food that will fill our spirits. The more we read the Bible, the more we will want to read it.You will be greatly blessed as you read and study God's Word.

Ask God to help you understand His word and give you knowledge, wisdom, and revelation of Him. He will be faithful to help you understand His Word when you seek Him with all your heart.
"Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee" (Psalm 119:11)

2). PRAYER

It is always nice to have someone to talk to and someone to listen to. God wants everyone to talk to Him. This is called prayer. You can pray out loud or silently. God wants you to talk to Him about everything, like you would your best friend.

You can talk to God:

A). Pray when you have done something bad and you are sorry.

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (I John 1:9).

B). Pray when you need help:

1). Ask to be healed from being sick.

2). If you are scared or sad, upset or worried about something.

3). Help on a test or to be kind to someone who is often not very nice.

"I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation" (Psalm 118:21).

C). Pray for another person who is sick or in trouble.
"Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed" (James 5:16).

D). Pray for someone who does not believe in Jesus.  Pray that they will become a believer in Jesus, so they can receive eternal life.

E).Give God thanks for all the wonderful things He has done.

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you" (1Thessalonians 5:18).
"
F). Pray as you read the Bible and ask God to help you understand what He is teaching and communicating to you.

3). GOING TO CHURCH

If possible, go to a Bible-believing church. Pray that God will lead you to the right Church.

A). So you can learn more about Jesus Christ.

B). So you can be around other Christians.

C). So God can use you to help others.

Summary:
First we must ask Jesus Christ to be our Lord and Savior and then we do the following things because we love Him. Jesus wants you to grow closer to Him every day by following these three important steps:

1). Reading the Bible

2). Praying

3). Going to Church

Jesus loves you so much! He wants your love in return. He also wants your obedience.

4).We must love God and we must also "love one another".
"And he (Jesus) answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself" (Luke 10:27).

5). Jesus wants us to share our faith in Him to others, so they can also believe and become a child of God.

A good verse to memorize and share is:

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).
